every year people lose lots of crypto funds to scam schemes, and the aim of this article is to open your eyes to stay safe
the following are the common types of crypto scams people fall victims to:
1/ fake exchanges
a lot of high profile crypto scammers spend thousands of dollars developing an exchange that looks real but isn't
they spend heavy on promotion to get people make deposits they wouldn't be able to withdraw
2/ investment and giveaway scams
this is a crypto scam common on telegram, where gullible users are convinced to send out huge amount of funds to get 100% ROI, at the end you get blocked as soon as the crypto fund is out of your possession
3/ Phishing scam
in this kind of scam usually seen on X via DM with KOLs as common targets, scammers send out cloned links of real sites or app that intend to look genuine so as to get unauthorized access to your crypto wallet when you use such links
4/ ICO scam
some scammers now parade themselves as notable developers seeking funds for their new crypto project that would be the "biggest" project, and then disappear when they're satisfied with the funds raised
5/ Pump & Dump | Rug Pulls scams
in this scheme, crypto scammers sometimes well known celebrities and creators coordinate themselves in launching or buying a large portion of their token prior to starting a hype marketing so as to dump on buyers or disappear with funds when they price goes higher than they got in
a lot of celeb coins fall under this scheme
6/ Technical Support scam
this type of scam is mostly found on discord, where scammers impersonate successful crypto project as support just to get access to your crypto wallet or exchange
once you provide sensitive details like your seedphrase, you see your wallet emptied in one second
7/ seedphrase scam
if you're old in the crypto space, you must have seen scammers sharing their wallet seedphrases pretending to be ignorant of what they're doing
in this scheme, they lure you into meeting a fake crypto portfolio in their wallet that would require you to make some deposits in order to move the holdings out, once you connect to such wallet, your own crypto holdings are at risk
how to avoid these scams is pretty easy:
• never be greedy to want what's not yours
• always be so careful when dealing with links, especially on platforms where you can't see what the link looks like
• when a hype sounds 100% promising with no loss, avoid it
