What is a Crypto Node?
A crypto node is a computer that is part of a blockchain network. It maintains the latest record of transactions and ensures that all participants adhere to the network's rules.
How Do crypto Nodes Work?
- Nodes serve multiple purposes within a blockchain network. They are the backbone of the decentralized architecture, ensuring that the network remains operational and secure without relying on a central authorit.
- The primary responsibility of nodes is to validate new transactions and blocks, which involves checking the authenticity and correctness of the data. This validation process helps prevent fraud and ensures that only legitimate transactions are added to the blockchain.
- Furthermore, nodes communicate with each other to propagate new transactions and blocks, maintaining the network's resilience and efficiency.
Types of Crypto Nodes
1. Full Node
A full node stores a full copy of the networkās digital ledger. These types of crypto nodes build the foundations for most blockchains; storing the history of the chain and communicating with other full nodes.
2. Miner Nodes
Miner nodes are the participants responsible for verifying transactions and adding them to the blockchain on a proof-of-work blockchain.
3. Validator Nodes
Validator nodes are similar to miner nodes, but on a proof-of-stake network instead: They also validate transactions and create blocks. However, they donāt have to solve complex computational puzzles, they are chosen in relation to the amount of funds they lock in the system.
4. Light Nodes
These types of nodes do not store the entire blockchain like their heavyweight counterparts. Instead, they just download āblock headersā. Without getting too technical, it means they donāt require as much storage capacity. Instead, these crypto nodesā only task is to verify transactions in the blockchain using simplified payment verification (SPV). Itās important to note that not all blockchains use these types of nodes. Mainly, they are popular in blockchains that have limited storage space per block, such as Bitcoin.
